NVC Lighting, a supplier of high quality and cost-effective commercial LED lighting solutions, has helped Blyth Sports Centre reduce energy costs by thousands of pounds a year.

Part of a £5 million refurbishment programme to upgrade and transform sport and leisure facilities at the centre, Northumberland-based contractors JTR Electrical Services specified NVC Lighting’s high performance Oregon range to replace the old and inefficient high bay fluorescent fittings in the main sports hall.

For Active Northumberland, which manages and operates Blyth Sports Centre on behalf of Northumberland County Council, the installation of NVC Lighting’s LED solutions will result in huge savings of over £5,000 on its energy bills each year, a reduction of over 75 percent.

The energy savings and reduction in its carbon footprint also highlight Active Northumberland’s commitment to operate in the most environmentally-conscious way.

Leanne Beattie, Operations Manager at Active Northumberland, said: “The investment to transform the centre is about revitalising our services to give the facility a fresh and modern feel and ultimately, improve the experience of our customers.

As part of this, the need for good quality lighting in the facility was critical.  Lighting plays a key role in a number of ways, from safety, visibility and security.

The new lighting installed not only offers us a low maintenance and long lifespan solution, but the savings it provides in energy costs against the old system will make a massive difference to the overall running costs of the centre.”

Supplied by Electric Center in Newcastle, JTR Electrical Services replaced 50 (70W, T8) high bay fixtures with 50 Oregon fittings, with a lumen output level of 12,000 lm and a standard 90o lens. The solution, offering efficiency up to 142 l.lm/c.W, was installed with a PIR occupancy sensor and light level sensor to maximse control for the Blyth Sports Centre facilities team and ensure a better quality of light for the centre’s users.

Jonny Prest, owner of JTR Electrical Services, commented: “We’re delighted that the lighting system installed is going to add so much value to Blyth Sports Centre.  It’s a popular facility that is used extensively by the local community.

We specified NVC Lighting’s Oregon range because it combines the superior quality and performance of more premium brands on the market, but at a more cost-effective price.  The fixtures are really simple to install and come complete with a 7-year warranty as standard.”
