The Maatea (main) Stage at the 2026 Moorea Festival in France featured an impressive array of international electronic and EDM artists and an equally dazzling lighting design by Loic Esparraga – of Paris-based design studio MIND – with 48 Robe GigaPointe moving lights at the core of the aesthetic.

The festival, which started in 2024 and is growing and developing each year, was staged in the gardens of the majestic and beautiful 11th-century Château de Grillemont at La Chapelle-Blanche, south of Tours in France’s Indre-et-Loire region – a perfect summer environment for hosting the “Island of DJs”.

Loic worked closely with Corentin Poirier, the festival’s creative & executive director and founder, who designed the Maatea Stage’s dramatic scenography, based on a tall LED screen setup, which, together with the lighting, was based on the imaginative thematic concept of fire and rock, with the goal of creating a striking contrast between day and night atmospherics.

During the day, the need was for subtle lighting to highlight the depth and overall scenic texture created by the careful blending of stage and lighting designs, allowing the stage geography to stand out.

At night, the stage was transformed into a completely different space by the GigaPointe beams and their powerful and spectacular effects. The fixtures were installed in six vertical columns of eight fixtures, equidistantly spanning the stage and delivering a hugely impactful look and atmosphere, with video content featuring erupting volcanoes “reinforcing the visual universe,” explained Loic.

Loic stated that the organisers sought something unique and different in this design: “The main challenge was to create this new and different world, one that broke from a typical EDM festival stage design, looked distinctive and individual while still following a defined theme.”

This is the second time Loic – a lighting professional with 10 years’ experience – has lit this event, and the second time he had used Robe’s amazing, new, highly dynamic GigaPointe fixture, officially launched in February at the ISE 2026 Expo.

Tours-based rental company Multi Scéni – the lighting, audio and video equipment supplier to this event – has recently made this investment in GigaPointes, which were delivered by Robe France.

Loic has been an enthusiastic long-time user of Robe’s MegaPointe fixtures in his designs – choosing the fixtures for their versatility and scope. So, when he knew the GigaPointe would be available for this event, “it naturally stood out as the ideal choice!”

He comments on the GigaPointe’s “extremely powerful” laser source output, which “ensured that we could make a strong visual impact even over long distances.” He also appreciates its speed of movement, as well as the excellent array of new gobo and prism effects, which can be used to imagine a myriad of cool looks and scenes onstage.

One of the most important things for designing and programming EDM shows is to have a vast choice of distinctive looks – so the audience does not start seeing repeated scenes throughout the event… and this is exactly what GigaPointe offers.

The layout of the six columns of GigaPointes was instrumental to utilising the entirety of the stage dimensions – both horizontally and vertically – a geometric harmony that provided a balanced visual presence of all elements, with the fixtures a natural integrator/interpreter between the scenic fabrics and video surfaces.

Loic enjoyed many features of the GigaPointe, commenting that “the integrated rotating bar is particularly interesting, as it offers so many highly dynamic effects possibilities,” together with all the other features making it a potent, contemporary multi-purpose fixture ideal for all types of shows and events.

The festival’s logo, installed at the top of the structure, was also highlighted with two Robe iFORTES – rigged on the Layher structure – and another two iFORTES were used to front light the artists. iFORTE was chosen for this because it is a powerful fixture with excellent framing shutters and therefore perfect to pick out the detail of the 12-metre-wide logo, which was positioned 14 metres up on the structure.

Two Maatea Stage artists – Timmy Trumpet and Trym – brought their own lighting operators this year, who also appreciated the GigaPointes, and the rest were all lit by Loic and his team, including colleague lighting operator Lucas Bussy. They worked closely with video operator Bastien Sierakowski and SFX operator Paul Dubertrand under the project management of Charlène Rodrigues.

Loic regularly notes that Robe’s product range covers multiple applications – live shows, events and concerts or architectural lighting. “I always find a suitable solution using Robe,” he states, adding that the fixtures are reliable, high-performance, and versatile tools “consistently meeting the demands of our projects.”

CU Phosco has supplied a high mast lighting system as part of the redevelopment of Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport in Anguilla. Working with Precision ATM, the project delivers ICAO-compliant LED lighting for the airport’s expanded aircraft stands and apron infrastructure, helping to improve visibility and operational safety across the airfield.

Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport is Anguilla’s main aviation gateway. Located close to the island’s capital, The Valley, it is an important hub for tourism and regional connectivity across the Caribbean.

The airport recently underwent a major redevelopment programme led by the Government of Anguilla. Works included a new passenger terminal, upgraded airfield infrastructure and a full apron redevelopment. New aircraft stands were also introduced to improve operational efficiency and accommodate future growth.

To illuminate the expanded apron areas, high-performance lighting infrastructure was required to provide safe visibility for aircraft movements, servicing operations and ground handling activities. The lighting design needed to achieve ICAO Annex 14 recommended lighting levels while delivering reliable long-term performance in a demanding coastal airport environment.

CU Phosco was selected by Precision ATM following the specification of raise and lower high masts within the project requirements.

The lighting system comprised six 15-metre raise and lower high masts, two fixed columns, 15 FL820-1 LED floodlights and five FL830 LED floodlights. CU Phosco also provided lighting design and mast design services as part of the project.

Selected for their safety advantages, the raise and lower high masts allow ground-level access to the luminaires without the need for work at elevated height and the subsequent need for specialist elevated access equipment or disruption to airfield operations.

Designed in accordance with ICAO Annex 14 recommendations, the lighting scheme delivers uniform illumination across the expanded apron and aircraft stand areas while helping to maintain safe operating conditions across the airfield.

The completed installation forms part of the wider transformation of Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport, with the redevelopment delivered by main contractor AECON AC. The airport officially opened in December 2025.

New LED lighting now provides reliable, high-quality illumination across key operational areas of the airfield. This ensures safe aircraft manoeuvring, apron operations and ground servicing activities. The use of modern LED floodlights also delivers excellent light quality and a long operational life that is suitable for demanding airfield environments.

By incorporating raise and lower high masts into the design, the airport benefits from safer, simplified maintenance access and reduced operational disruption during future servicing requirements, an important consideration within live aviation environments.

Dave Smith, Director, Precision ATM commented: “Delivering reliable apron lighting was an important part of the airfield lighting project. CU Phosco’s experience in high mast lighting and airfield applications helped provide a solution that met the project’s operational and maintenance requirements while aligning with the airport’s long-term expansion plans.”

White Light (WL) is proud to have supported the Watermill Theatre’s ambitious new production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, where lighting designer Jai Morjaria has delivered a bold and inventive design that transforms a compact venue into a world of spectacle.

Tasked with reimagining a much-loved musical within one of the UK’s most intimate theatre spaces, Morjaria approached the project with a clear brief to achieve the seemingly impossible. A single small stage needed to represent multiple locations while also accommodating a flying car, meaning lighting became central to how the story was told and experienced.

“We had to find a way to make a show that takes place in so many different locations exist within one small space, whilst still delivering the magic,” explains Jai.

This production differs significantly from traditional large-scale versions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. With a cast of actor-musicians and limited space, the design relies on creativity rather than scale. Lighting plays a pivotal role in supporting illusion and enhancing the integration of puppetry, automation and set.

“Lighting played a huge role in helping the illusions read, especially with an audience sitting just feet away,” he adds.

Designing for the Watermill’s immersive environment brought a unique set of challenges. Audience members sit in close proximity to the action, sometimes just a few feet from the performers and technical rig so the lighting needed to deliver clarity, consistency and impact across every seat in the auditorium.

“Someone in the front row could be three feet from the action, while someone at the back deserves just as much spectacle. We had to deliver seamless illusions for every viewpoint as well as enough space for those close to the car,” says Jai.

The technical solution combined flexibility, reliability and performance. Inside the theatre, a rig built around Martin MAC Aura and Ayrton Diablo fixtures provided a rich colour palette, precision control and low-maintenance performance, essential in a venue where access is limited and fixtures must remain in place for extended periods.

The production extended beyond the main stage, with additional performance areas including a circus tent and outdoor environments. This required a cohesive lighting approach across the entire site, ensuring the audience experience remained consistent from arrival through to the performance itself. Flicker-free lighting was prioritised to support audience interaction and social content capture, enhancing engagement beyond the show.

Technology played a significant role in unlocking creative possibilities. The use of wireless lighting, LED sources and atmospheric effects enabled a range of dynamic moments, from subtle storytelling cues to playful details such as illuminated elements within the car itself. These innovations allowed the team to deliver effects that would have been difficult to achieve in a venue of this scale, even a few years ago.

While the flying car is a defining moment of the production, lighting underpins many of the show’s most memorable scenes. From transforming the stage into multiple locations to supporting high-energy musical numbers, the design brings pace, colour and clarity to the storytelling. One standout moment for Jai is the vibrant “Bombie Samba” sequence, where bold colour choices and dynamic effects create an energetic visual shift.

“One of my favourite moments was lighting a number called ‘Bombi Samba’, where the Baroness performs a big dance number. It was an exciting, flamboyant and jazzy sequence that gave me the opportunity to work with bold, vibrant colours,” he notes.

Collaboration was central throughout the process. Morjaria worked closely with director Paul Hart, set designer Katie Lias and the wider creative team to ensure lighting integrated seamlessly with every aspect of the production. He also worked with Associate Lighting Designer Sam Osborne, Production Electrician Ryan Tate, Production manager Neil Starke and the WL team to deliver a tailored solution that maximised both creative ambition and technical constraints.

“WL’s Adam Walker-Cheetham was incredible. The level of support and the rig we achieved would not have been possible otherwise,” comments Jai.

WL’s Key Account Manager Adam Walker-Cheetham comments: “Supporting Jai, Sam and the lighting team at The Watermill to realise their creative vision while overcoming technical challenges has been incredibly rewarding. The results look amazing. It was a pleasure being able to guide them with their fixtures choices.”

Ultimately, the success of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Watermill lies in its ability to deliver a large-scale theatrical experience within an intimate setting. For Morjaria, the lasting impact of the production is not the spectacle alone, but the emotional connection it creates with audiences. “Giving people that sense of joy and escape is what really matters,” he concludes.

A new alliance has been launched in London to help address the area’s electrical skills gap by bringing together local Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) Member businesses, training providers and the local authority.

The Local London Electrotechnical Careers and Training Alliance (ETCA) covers East London and surrounding areas. It will support closer collaboration between employers, education partners and local decision-makers to strengthen routes into the electrotechnical sector and help more people access high-quality, work-based training.

Led by ECA and its Members and in collaboration with the Greater London CTEC, led by New City College, the ETCA will focus on practical local action to improve skills provision, support employers and build the qualified electrical workforce needed for future demand across housing, infrastructure, clean energy and digital technologies.

At the launch which took place at Barnet & Southgate College, the discussion highlighted significant challenges facing the electrotechnical workforce, with concerns that current skills capacity is not sufficient to meet future demand, including net zero and clean energy targets.

Speakers noted that while interest in apprenticeships remains strong, employers are struggling to take on new starters due to commercial pressures, tight margins and the cost of training in the early stages. The need for clearer pathways into the industry, stronger links between education and employers, and better understanding among policymakers of existing electrical training routes – including EV and solar – were also raised.

Bayley Hall, Social Value Lead at ECA Member Phoenix ME, said: “Supporting younger people does benefit us [employers] in the long run.

If you’re helping younger people when they’re at school from an early age all the way through to further education, we can then play our part as employers by making the industry an attractive place to work and supporting them via an apprenticeship and beyond, throughout their career.”

Keith Sanderson, Head of Education and Skills at ECA, said: “Electrical skills shortages are a pressing challenge, and they can only be addressed effectively when employers, training providers and local decision makers work together.

This ETCA is an important step towards creating a stronger local skills pipeline. By bringing together local contractors, education partners and the local authority, we can help ensure skills provision is better aligned with employer demand and the future needs of the electrotechnical sector.”

Chris Davies, Barnet & Southgate College CTEC Sub-Regional Lead: Local London, said: “The Local London CTEC working with ETCA represents a significant opportunity to reshape how the electrotechnical skills system responds to employer demand. The challenge isn’t simply attracting more learners into the sector—it’s creating a joined-up skills pipeline that enables more people to progress into apprenticeships and sustained employment. By aligning education, industry and government priorities, we’re building a model that is responsive to the needs of employers today while preparing the workforce needed to deliver London’s long-term growth, infrastructure ambitions and transition to a net-zero economy. We’re proud to be playing a leading role in driving that collaboration.”

The following organisations are taking part in the Local London Electrotechnical Careers and Training Alliance:

Singapore-based lighting designer Fengmao specified 12 Astera QuikSpots as a quality and highly practical wireless lighting solution for illuminating six stunning bronze sculptures by the legendary late Colombian artist and sculptor, Fernando Botero.

These were installed across various locations within the Silver Leaf Garden at popular horticultural attraction, Gardens by the Bay.

Fengmao has worked extensively in lighting photography and film environments as well as experimental theatre and spatial/interactive installations. Once again, he thought out-of-the-box for this project after being approached by lighting rental contractor and technical production company True Colour Media (TCM) and asked to develop a lighting concept designed to enhance the sculptures and extend the audience experience beyond daylight hours, allowing the works to be appreciated long after sunset.

The decision to use the Astera QuikSpot – a highly flexible and innovative battery-powered LED luminaire with the highest quality output, coupled with ease of use, consistent performance and rapid setup in a compact format – was an ideal fit for all technical requirements, explained Fengmao.

The QuikSpots were sold to TCM by Astera’s Singapore distributor, Total Solution Marketing.

On site at Gardens by the Bay, two QuikSpots fixtures were deployed to light the fronts of each of the six iconic sculptures – Adam and Eve, Cat, Horse, Seated Woman, The Dancers, and Woman on Horse.

The lights were set to a warm white colour, which resonated harmoniously with their form, copper finish, and textures.

The QuikSpots were perfect for working in Singapore’s harsh tropical climate with constant high humidity, and being located outdoors, it was also mission-critical that they were IP65 rated to withstand the frequent thunderstorms.

Security was also a consideration. Even in the extremely low crime environment of Singapore – the lights sitting on the ground were potentially tempting for pranking or mischief seekers – but with Astera’s smart Anti-Theft Alarm feature enabled, this was minimised!

When activated, the alarm triggers a visual and audible alert if the fixture is moved or tampered with, and the alarm status is highlighted in the AsteraApp, so technical crews can monitor if any lights have been disturbed!

Furthermore, Fengmao and the team wanted a fixture with the flexibility of being able to switch between programmed sequences, colours, etc., for the four-month duration of the exhibition.

And to top it off, it would have been extremely difficult to install a traditional control system at the location without extensive works.

The aesthetic appearance and ergonomics of the fixtures themselves was yet another detail that was considered, and how well they blended into the environment, plus, being able to work with the AsteraApp for control – through a secured radio PIN – gives peace of mind in a signal-dense environment like Singapore.

Quality of light was, naturally, another “top priority” for Fengmao on this project and an area in which all Astera products excel.

“The QuikSpot’s single point light emission ensures a homogeneous output and shadowing compared to traditional LED PAR lights,” he noted, adding that this was important for working with the distinctive contours of the Fernando Botero pieces, as the lighting needed to preserve the inherent simplicity of their form.

Controlling stray light was another challenge, both for enhancing the meticulously curated space in the Silver Garden, and ensuring that they don’t encounter glare, keeping the focus firmly on the artworks. “We used the Astera AX5 snoot to maintain a clear profile and reduce glare,” Fengmao explained, and the QuikSpot’s zoom was “extremely helpful” in offering greater freedom for angling and positioning the fixtures.

The exhibition opened as part of the 2026 Singapore Art Week in January and then ran until May and was a huge success.

At the heart of London’s Docklands, Global Switch London East forms part of one of Europe’s most connected digital infrastructure campuses. Designed to support high-performance computing, AI deployments and advanced liquid cooling technologies, the facility continues to evolve through a phased refurbishment programme focused on flexibility, efficiency and resilience.

Zumtobel was appointed to deliver a comprehensive lighting solution spanning multiple floors of the building, including data halls, plant areas and a pioneering liquid cooling demonstration suite. The project highlights the role of adaptable lighting infrastructure within mission-critical environments where performance, reliability and flexibility are essential.

Global Switch’s London campus is undergoing continuous redevelopment to accommodate the rising demands of AI and high-performance computing. As part of this programme, refurbished floors required lighting capable of supporting operational safety, visual clarity at rack level and long-term energy efficiency.

The project brought together multiple consultants and stakeholders across different phases, including Hilson Moran, Burns & McDonnell and AFK Studios, with Datalec Precision Installations (DPI) responsible for installation. Coordinating design intent across eleven floors while maintaining consistency and programme alignment presented a significant logistical challenge.

Collaboration supporting phased delivery

Zumtobel’s nationwide project team worked closely with consultants, contractor and client representatives to ensure a cohesive approach across each stage of the refurbishment. Clear communication and a shared understanding of operational requirements allowed the lighting strategy to evolve alongside the building programme while maintaining consistency across floors.

Ken Knight, Head of Data Centres – UK & Ireland, Zumtobel Group, comments: “Data centre environments place very specific demands on lighting, from vertical illuminance at rack level to reliability and energy efficiency. Our role was to translate those requirements into a scalable solution that could be implemented across multiple floors while supporting Global Switch’s ongoing expansion and innovation strategy.”

A flexible lighting platform for data-driven environments

The final solution combined robust industrial luminaires, advanced emergency systems and intelligent controls to meet the operational demands of a high-density data centre.

TECTON continuous-row lighting formed the backbone of the data hall installation, delivering precise vertical illuminance on rack frontals through split-lens optics. This approach enhances visibility for maintenance and operational tasks while avoiding unnecessary light spill onto circulation areas.

TECTON with RESCLITE PRO emergency luminaires were integrated with the eBOX monitoring platform, providing a self-testing and self-reporting emergency solution aligned with the reliability expectations of mission-critical facilities.

Across plant areas, offices and shared spaces, AMPHIBIA luminaires were selected for their durability and IK-rated performance, ensuring resilience in technically demanding environments. ECOSIGN emergency signage supported safe navigation, while the LITECOM lighting management system enables centralised monitoring and control across all luminaires.

As the refurbishment progresses, TECTON II is planned for levels eight and nine. Its plug-and-play architecture supports faster installation, with independent installer studies showing average installation speeds of up to 70% faster than comparable systems, helping streamline delivery across future phases.

Matt Perrier Flint, Director UK & Ireland, DPI, comments: “Delivering a project of this scale required close coordination between all parties. The modular design of the Zumtobel lighting system simplified installation and helped maintain programme certainty, while the collaborative approach ensured that technical requirements were clearly understood at every stage.”

Supporting innovation in the liquid cooling suite

Level 10 houses Global Switch’s liquid cooling demonstration suite, showcasing a full breadth of the latest technologies designed to enable the most powerful chips to operate with greater efficiency and at higher densities. Designed by AFK Studios, the space was developed in collaboration with project partner JPR in developing the lighting solution to complement the technical environment while maintaining clarity and operational safety.

The scheme illustrates how adaptable lighting infrastructure can support evolving digital technologies and demonstration environments without compromising efficiency or maintainability.

Measurable benefits across performance and operations

The upgraded lighting delivers a range of operational advantages for Global Switch:

Improved vertical illuminance supporting safe and efficient rack maintenance

Reduced energy consumption through LED technology and intelligent controls

Simplified installation and future adaptability via modular TECTON architecture

Self-monitoring emergency lighting enhancing reliability and compliance

Durable luminaires suited to plant and technical environments

Together, these improvements provide a consistent lighting platform capable of evolving alongside the campus’s ongoing densification and technology development.

Derek Allen, Group Operations Director at Global Switch, comments: “Across our global portfolio, operational resilience and flexibility are fundamental. The lighting strategy implemented at our London data centre supports safe, efficient operations while giving us the adaptability required to meet evolving customer demands. It forms part of the wider infrastructure platform that enables us to support increasingly complex AI and high-performance computing deployments.”
