WILA’s lighting solutions across seven schools in Swindon is estimated to reduce energy consumption by 60% to 80% per annum

The seven schools across Swindon had outdated T5 and T8 lamps, which needed to be replaced on a like-for-like basis with new LED fixtures. 6,000 luminaires needed to be upgraded in total across the seven sites. The schools in the project are Abbey Park School, Brimble Hill School, Red Oaks School, Uplands School, Nova Hreod School, Orchid Vale School and Moredon School.

To facilitate and manage the project, integrated provider Pinnacle Group were appointed. Pinnacle Group commissioned innovative lighting specialist WILA to supply, install and commission the thousands of luminaires required across the seven sites.

To deliver even greater energy savings, WILA customised the control system to dim the lights near to windows and reduce PIR time.

Completing the sustainability cycle, WILA collaborated with Lumicom to ensure disused batteries, luminaires and lamps were properly recycled. Lumicom is the UK’s leading independent not-for-profit WEEE Compliance Scheme, set up specifically to serve the lighting industry.

Paul De Kock, Head of Projects at Pinnacle Group said: “Working with WILA made a complex and extensive project much more straightforward. Thanks to WILA’s high-quality, low-energy LED lighting, the energy savings to be gained by these Swindon-based schools is staggering.

“The initiative from WILA to tailor the control system was demonstrable of their expert knowledge in reducing energy consumption. We hope this is the beginning of a longstanding partnership with WILA to deliver energy savings across many other community and public-sector facilities.”

The luminaires are now running at 80% and have been integrated into the onsite DALI control system. The upgrade to LED lighting will undoubtedly pay dividends for the schools, with an impressively swift payback time of just 3-4 years.
