This year marks the 70th anniversary of the luminaire manufacturer NORKA

Founded in 1948 by Walter Stäcker, the family-owned company – now in its third generation – has now been continuously promoting the development of technically advanced, robust lighting systems for 70 years. People who work in foundries, paint shops or cold storage facilities, who walk through railway stations or wait on platforms, who swim in indoor pools or run a car repair shop need more than just standard lighting. This requires technically advanced lighting solutions with a high protection rating, customised for special environmental conditions and visual tasks. NORKA, the leading manufacturer of special luminaires has been specialising in the production of solutions for such demanding conditions for 70 years. The history of the company reflects the development of innovative lighting technology, from the use of fluorescent and high-pressure lamps to highoutput, energy-efficient luminaires with high-performance LEDs.

NORKA has gained extensive know-how in the field of high-quality processing of polymers, specialising in extrusion and injection moulding. The reflector technology for optimized light control and easy maintainable luminaire mounting rail systems with their accessories, play an important role besides the construction and assembly of luminaire housings.

NORKA currently employs 220 people at two separate locations: Around 60 employees work at the administrative offices in Hamburg, while 160 workers are employed at the plant in Dörverden-Hülsen/Aller, where the company operates a state-of-the art production facility, a well-equipped training centre and extensive lighting technology labs that constantly monitor the quality of the NORKA luminaires. Apart from photometric measurements, the luminaires undergo a range of additional tests. Apart from water and dust tightness tests, luminaires are examined as regards EMC, are tested for durability, vibration and impact strength and undergo extreme low and high temperature tests.

With the founding of NORKA Automation in 2015, the company has evolved from a simple luminaire manufacturer into a solutions provider for lighting projects. “We now also offer the appropriate control system for the luminaires as well as the integration into building services”, explains Martin C.

Stäcker, Managing Director of Norka Automation and grandson of the company founder and continues: “This means that we are able to present holistic solutions that go far beyond simple lighting in terms of functionality and fully
meet the customers’ specifications.” All stages in the development of the control solution in this company are covered on site, from the concept and switch cabinet construction to the control programming and commissioning to ensure a continuous chain of support for the customer from the idea to the realisation.
