Telensa Presented with Two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise

Smart City Technology Firm Recognised for Innovation and Export Growth

Telensa was presented with two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire Julie Spence OBE QPM, at an event at the company’s Cambridge HQ. The International Trade award recognises Telensa’s sustained export growth, and the Innovation award recognises the company’s pioneering work in smart energy metering for street lighting. Now in its 52nd year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the UK. Telensa is one of only 8 companies to receive two awards in 2018.

Developed and manufactured in the UK, Telensa makes the world’s most-deployed wireless streetlight controls, with over 90 mass-scale networks and a footprint of over 1.5 million lights. This includes one in ten of the UK’s streetlights, and also the world’s largest deployment in the US. Working with partners, Telensa has proved that smart streetlighting is the ideal platform for other mass-scale urban data applications, from real-time traffic analysis to hyper-local air quality monitoring.

“Cities around the world are keen to embrace the economic and environmental benefits of becoming data-driven smart cities, and our innovative smart street lighting technology is the obvious first step to make this a reality,” said Will Franks, CEO of Telensa. “Our company has grown rapidly, with deployments around the globe, and we are delighted to have been recognised with two Queen’s Awards.”
