A Magical Silk Lantern Display at Clerkenwell Design Week

Designers Curiousa & Curiousa exhibited at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week at the LIGHT show situated at the renowned Fabric nightclub.

Although mostly known for their colourful hand-blown glass lights, Curiousa & Curiousa’s latest design, the Ume Lantern, focuses on the translucent natural material of silk, creating a special installation to work perfectly with the arched brick ceilings of the Fabric interior. These dark atmospheric rooms being a perfect backdrop for the glowing silk art pieces.

The nature-inspired range was created using designer Esther Patterson’s original drawings and paintings of wildflowers and plants in the Derbyshire countryside as well as her own personal garden. The lantern comes in a choice of seven prints, including flourishing gardens with peonies and irises, chinoiserie-inspired landscapes and
a subtle textured print that can be matched to any colour scheme.

These lantern are handmade to order with or without a tassel, of which there are three lengths – 300mm, 500mm,
1000mm. It can also be made (without the tassel) as a portable outdoor light. Using a linen silk which is then coated with a UV and showerproof finish.
