Young Lighter of the Year 2013 winner announcement

Rachael Nicholls, Hoare Lea, was announced Young Lighter of the Year by Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) last night, for her presentation ‘Task Lighting at the Hospital Bed’. The announcement was made at the Lux Awards 2013 dinner held at Westminster Park Plaza, London, on 21st November.

Rachael’s presentation explored solutions for hospital lighting, especially at the bedside, where she learnt there is an issue as staff sometimes use torches on mobile phones to help them perform tasks.

Other finalists include Philip Avery, GIA Equation, who won the Best Written Paper Award for ‘Architectural Lighting – Not Yet Dead’ and David Kretzer, LEOX Design Partnershipwho was awarded Best Presentation for his presentation ‘Synagogue Daylighting Design’ . These categories were judged by the Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) and the Worshipful Company of Lightmongers respectively.

The awards, now in their 19th year, provide a unique platform for young lighters to address a lighting subject of their choice, honing their presentation skills, and raising their profile within the industry. Each finalist gave their 15 minute presentation to a full audience at LuxLive at Earls Court on November 21st.

You can view all four finalists’ video presentations on the SLL website here.
