Social Lightscapes Workshop – Paris

Configuring Light (London School of Economics) − in partnership with PLDC and iGuzzini, and in collaboration with Ville de Paris and ACE − is now inviting professionals to apply to participate in the final event of the Social Lightscapes workshop series.

The workshop will take place from 27. to 30. October, 2017 and focus on the neighbourhood of Place des Fêtes, Paris. The four-day workshop (full time) will involve continuous practical engagement with Place des Fêtes through both social research exercises and design activities using iGuzzini lighting equipment. Led by experienced sociologists from LSE and Kings College London with a specific expertise in light and urban space, and by lighting designers with in-depth experience in the field of social and community projects, participants will develop lighting strategies with a rich social understanding of people and communities.

The Social Lightscapes workshop series aims to develop social research skills and awareness within the field of lighting design and planning. The workshops guide participants through a practical approach to social research in design, exploring and designing for an actual urban site, in order to help designers develop a more structured understanding of the social spaces they intervene in. We invite applications from designers, planners and architects who wish to integrate social understanding more deeply and creatively into their professional practices, as well as people from social science, social research and urbanism who want to engage more directly with the material fabric and design of city spaces. For more information and to register, please send a personal statement plus CV/ résumé (English and/or French) to by 15. July, 2017.

The Configuring Light team will select the best applications by 30. July, 2017.
