Pro-Lite & Photometric Testing: Announcement of 2014 Training Programme

The path to enlightenment – training in laser safety, practical photometry & light measurement and photobiological safety

Pro-Lite and Photometric Testing have announced the dates of their 2014 training workshops – see below. Pro-Lite and Photometric Testing deliver training workshops in three subjects: laser safety (with reference to EN 60825); practical photometry and light measurement; and the photobiological safety of lamps and lighting (with reference to EN 62471). For further information on each workshop, see below.

These  workshops are presented in two locations, either at the Photometric Testing laboratory in Cheltenham, or in the training facility at Pro-Lite in Cranfield, near Milton Keynes in Bedfordshire. The trainers are experts in their fields, but more importantly are considered to be gifted in presenting what can often be quite complex subjects in an easily understood way.

Laser Safety Awareness & Laser Safety Officer Training (EN 60825)

Next workshop: 11-12 June, 2014

Fee – Laser Safety Awareness: £300 + VAT

Fee – Laser Safety Officer: £400 + VAT

Pro-Lite is pleased to present LASERVISION’s acclaimed laser safety awareness workshop and laser safety officer training. The awareness tutorial aims to explain the risks, your rights and your responsibilities when working with lasers. The tutorial is intended to be easily understood, low on maths and perfect for those working with lasers in industry, universities, hospitals and research institutes who wish to keep up to date with laser safety. The optional training on the second day expands upon the introductory, awareness course and is intended for those who serve as laser safety officers.

Practical Photometry & Light Measurement (EN 13032 & IES LM79)

Next workshop: 27-28 March, 2014

Fee – 1 day theory: £450 + VAT

Fee – 2 day theory & practical: £850 + VAT

Lighting is an exciting and rapidly developing area – LEDs and solid state lighting promise not only energy efficiency but also design flexibility. Yet LED specifications are often mistrusted. Our one day workshop in photometry and light measurement helps you to understand LED and lighting specifications, to separate truth from fiction and to show you how to measure and express the output of your products. An additional full-day practical session is optional where delegates can gain hands-on experience with the latest, state-of-the-art measurement equipment.

Photobiological Safety (EN 62471)

Next workshop: 15 May, 2014

Fee – 1 day theory & practical: £450 + VAT

The reappraisal of the place of LEDs in safety standards has had a significant impact on the process of bringing to market products containing LEDs or any other non-laser source of optical radiation, whether the emission of light be the primary purpose of the product or not. From CE marking to consideration of employee safety under the auspices of the EU artificial optical radiation directive, a well defined legal framework is now in place. This workshop has been designed to provide an overview of BS EN 62471 and photobiology, how the standard is implemented, to what it applies and the impact of legislation upon business.
