Pavegen energy harvesting slabs

Pavegen is a flexible paving slab that harnesses energy from the kinetic energy of people walking. Energy is generated everytime a footstep hits the slab. Where there is a high footfall, energy is harvested to power a variety of low energy applications. Five per cent of the energy generated by each footstep is used to illuminate the slab, and the rest can be output into different applications such as low energy lighting and signage. The system has already been installed at a school in Canterbury.
