LGN Street Design Awards now open for entries

The Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) continues to be an official sponsor of the Street Design Awards 2011, organised by Local Government News.

The Street Design Awards, which are divided into six categories, aim to reward innovation and best practice in urban street design schemes. All entries must have been completed by, or on behalf of, local authorities within the past three years.

ILP will judge the Public Lighting category, which includes street lighting, the uplighting of public buildings and energy efficiency measures. Entrants will be judged on the overall design of the scheme, the quality and choice of materials used and what the project has achieved within the set budget.

Laura Sharman, Editor of Local Government News, said: ‘I am delighted that the ILP has continued its sponsorship of the Street Design Awards.

‘With the recent cuts to council funding, it is more important than ever that we share best practice and recognise the fantastic work that is still being carried out across the UK.

‘Having ILP as an independent judge will ensure we continue to push forward standards and recognise who is really delivering award-winning schemes.

The six categories are: urban green space, children’s play, community-led design, pedestrian environment, highways and public lighting.

The deadline for submissions is 29 April 2011. For further information and an entry form, please email l.sharman@hgluk.com
