Let there be light – and there was!

CIBSE, in conjunction with the Society of Light and Lighting, hosted the ‘Let there be Light’ lighting workshop at St Mary Redcliffe church in Bristol on the 2nd of February 2012.

Over 30 participants, including Architects, Engineers, Lighting Designers, Contractors and students from the Bartlett School of Architecture, competed in four teams to produce the best lit effect for the theme “Light is Evolution”.

The evening began with drinks and canapés at the Mercure Holland House, adjacent to the church, with a highly entertaining presentation from church historian Cecile Gillard. Attendees were then split into four teams, for the evenings challenge. Each team was given a selection of different light fittings supplied by Erco, iGuzzini and One Eighty Light. They were then given one hour to come up with a winning lighting solution.

Judge, Paul Ruffles, Fellow and Past President of the Society of Light and Lighting and Principal at Lighting Design and Technology, commented that “It was a great opportunity for lighters to wander around with all sorts and sizes of light and see exactly what they could do on a real building – much more intuitive than even the best computer rendering!”
