Leading Hotel Chain Looks to a Future of Energy Saving

Megaman’s Ping Pong and GU10 energy saving lamps have been used throughout the Future Inn in Bristol to meet with the company’s stringent criteria on energy savings, whilst providing the required lighting levels. The hotel is expected to achieve an estimated annual energy saving of 10075kW and 4.3 tons of carbon following the installation of the new lamps, in line with Future Inns energy reduction policy.

The hotel is situated next to Cabot Circus, Bristol’s new 500 million pound shopping complex with over one million sq ft of some of the finest shops and restaurants in the area. Although the Future Inn’s chain is very eco-friendly, using energy saving lighting where possible, the hotel’s maintenance team were unable to find energy saving lamps to fit into the existing bedroom fittings, which included fixed wardrobe units where space was extremely limited.  Contacting local electrical supplier Edmundsons, the maintenance team were introduced to the Megaman range and the Ping Pong and GU10 lamps provided the solution.

Part of Megaman’s classic range of lamps, Ping Pong has been designed to mimic the incandescent P45 in appearance. The 7W lamps compact dimensions make it ideal for smaller, more decorative luminaires, whilst the specially designed translucent housing allows an all-round 360º illumination with excellent light output. With a lamp life of 15,000 hours, the Ping Pong lamp lasts 15 times longer than the equivalent incandescent.

Megaman’s GU10 reflectors were also used in the bedrooms, providing a direct replacement to the previous halogen light sources.  Using the company’s unique Ingenium™ technology, the lamps deliver breakthrough lighting performance and superior operating life as well as producing an even light distribution and energy savings of up to 80%.

Following the installation, Sabrina Dowman-Silk, Operations Manager at Future Inns Bristol commented “As part of our energy efficiency drive, we are pleased to be working with Megaman to provide us with a sustainable long term solution which we hope will result in substantial energy savings throughout the hotel and improve our carbon footprint.”
