How will our roads and cities look at night in the future?  Emerging technology will no doubt play a part as we move away from our sodium-clad streets into whiter light sources – whether LED or otherwise but with local authorities turning existing street lights off, will there still be investment to provide lighting for those that need it, the people that occupy and visit our towns and cities?

Allan Howard will explain the rationale behind the  ILP’s campaign to “Keep the lights on” and the impact of not doing so, while Dave Franks of Westminster City Council will outline his own authority’s policy and current thinking on street lighting in the City.

Turning to a broader perspective, Jonathan Rush, Executive Lighting Designer at HoareLea will then explore how street lighting fits into the wider urban environment.  Jonathan has been involved with a number of high profile projects and his master thesis for his MSc at the Bartlett focussed on thedimming of urban realm lighting.

Registration for the event will begin at 17:30 with the presentations beginning at 18:00. There will be a small reception afterwards at 20:00.

More details to be confirmed at a later date. This is a free event, but registration is required. Please book online here.
