CP in Control at The Pods

CP Electronics were the chosen supplier for a lighting control system and a variety of PIR and microwave detectors at the newly constructed Scunthorpe Sports Academy, known as The Pods. The £21M project has been completed with the use of sustainable systems and products, with the aim of achieving a “very good” BREEAM rating.

Designed to provide a high quality sports facility, North Lincolnshire Council’s new leisure centre is a series of interconnecting domes created from natural materials and it is thought to be the first leisure facility built in this way.  The Pods has an eight lane 25m swimming pool, state-of-the-art gym, a six court sports hall, fitness studio, crèche and café.

CP’s Vitesse Plus system was chosen for the project as it proved to be an easy to install and cost effective solution for providing power and lighting control within the building.  Requiring little or no commissioning, the system has 10 luminaire outputs which can be configured as three separate channels.  All control inputs are ELV and provide a variety of functions.

As The Pods has been constructed to conform to a strong sustainable ethos, lighting control in the form of absence and presence detection has been used throughout various areas such as offices, corridors and toilets.  Connected via CP’s Vitesse Modular (plug and play) system, the ceiling mounted EBDSPIR-PRM passive infrared detectors were installed small spaces and toilets.  Corridors are controlled using the long range MWS3A-PRM detector mid range MWS6-PRM and offices have VITP-PD/IR detectors for Daylight lux control and SELV retractive switches.  This allows the lighting to be automatically dimmed or turned off when there is sufficient natural light.
