Business School Adopts Lighting Management
The new complex provides the additional facilities the School requires for an expansion of its teaching and executive education activities and is centred on a series of Harvard-style lecture theatres facing onto a cloister which connects directly to the courtyard garden. A first floor club room at the heart of the building connects to the roof terrace with framed views through the pergola to the garden below.
A Delmatic lighting management system controls lighting throughout the complex including public areas, teaching and study areas and the lecture theatres.
A key requirement for the lighting control was the ability for the school’s lecturers and other staff to alter the lighting levels and moods to suit different activities using simple scene-setting controls that were standard for each theatre. This posed a challenge as the theatres use different light sources, requiring different dimming protocols.
Delmatic was able to overcome this challenge with integrated dimming systems, using a combination of DSI and DALI dimming, depending on the light sources being controlled. The system uses Delmatic’s innovative Dali Broadcast modules, which provide addressable dimming and monitoring of DALI luminaires without the need to address ballasts on site.
Scene-set control panels with integrated infra-red receivers providing remote control functionality enable lecturers to select preferred pre-set lighting scenes while RS232 interfaces with the AV system provide joined-up control of lighting and audio-visual functions.
