Bentley Motors collaborates with Bruce Munro

Bruce Munro is delighted to announce an exhibition of his work, which will be shown in collaboration with the launch of the new GTC by Bentley Motors.

Bentley’s new masterpiece is being launched at dealerships across the country with a unified theme of ‘The Art Gallery’ from 26th September to 28th October. The events mirror the first launch event at the Orangery, Kensington Palace, London, on June 30th this year.

The sharp and elegant new GTC is lovingly made in Crewe, based on a full-sized clay exterior prototype – a process similar to the prototyping of bronze sculptures. The new GTC is muscular and sporty – featuring the world-famous Bentley bonnet line.

Munro will show a scaled down ‘Field of Light’ installation, which garnered international praise at the Eden Project in the winter of 2008/09. This new indoor ‘Field of Light’ will blossom in Bentley showrooms as a myriad of frosted glass spheres, bobbing on acrylic stems of random height.  Set within 19 plinths raised 1m up from the floor, the orbs will glow with changing colours, thanks to Munro’s customised colour changing projectors.

In ‘An Evening of Art and Champagne’ owners of Bentley cars across the British Isles will be served champagne from the oldest champagne house in the world, Ruinart, in Riedel champagne flutes.

Alongside the gleaming car glowing by the light of his installation, Bruce Munro will show fine limited edition prints of his work, signed and offered for sale either framed or unframed.

But it’s not all conspicuous consumption: Munro will devote one stand to the Help For Heroes charity, where, earlier this year, he installed a cascading shower of light in the entrance hall at the soldier’s rehabilitation centre at Tedworth Hall.

Plans for Munro’s new installation, ‘Star Turn’ will also be on display, to help raise awareness for Help For Heroes further.

‘Star-Turn’ is a Heath Robinson contraption that is ridden like a bicycle. Using T-Lights and manpower it will create a revolving wheel of light, like a candlelit merry-go-round. A sponsored Dusk-to-Dawn ride of 12 riders under a geodesic dome aims to raise funds for the centres for young wounded soldiers. Munro is currently searching for a good exterior setting for this piece. The design owes something to Heath Robinson and Jules Verne and the candles will be mounted on brackets and protected by borosilicate sleeves.

Bentley has commissioned artwork from six vibrant British artists, including the street artist Jimmy Crayon, which will also be displayed on triangular columns within the showrooms.
