Belgian lighting company Kreon acquires Belux

On 1 January 2016 Belgian lighting manufacturer Kreon became the new owner of Belux, the renowned Swiss-based designer and manufacturer of sophisticated lighting solutions.

Founded in Switzerland in 1970, Belux has worked together with such prominent international designers as Frank Gehry, Naoto Fukasawa, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Herzog & de Meuron and Hella Jongerius to develop and produce a range of remarkable poetic designs including Cloud, Lantern, Jingzi and Blossom.

Kreon is a family-owned business based in Belgium and Belux represents an ideal addition to the lighting expert that will enrich the company in many areas. Kreon plans to maintain the brand name, product strategy and orientation of Belux and will operate in the market with the dual brands Kreon and Belux.

Since starting in Antwerp in 1982, Belgian based company Kreon has developed and produced architectural lighting and integrated metal ceiling systems applied in high end residential environments, retail and hospitality concepts, showrooms, galleries and offices worldwide.

Kreon started as a designer and manufacturer of architectural lighting concepts, introducing for the first time ever a collection of square shaped, architecturally inspired luminaires (‘Kreon Tools of Light’).  Since 1994 Kreon also offers integrated metal ceiling systems (‘Kreon Ceiling Solutions’).

Throughout these two product groups Kreon has always applied and respected 3 principles: unity in design, simplicity in technique and precision in detail.  In striving for these principles, the Belgian company has become the international reference in design luminaires and is loved and appreciated worldwide by architects, interior designers and lighting designers.

As from 2000, the company has been owned by Ben Vaessen as part of Vasco Industries (Vasco Group, E-Max and Limeparts). In 2007 it moved its headquarters from Antwerp to Opglabbeek where Kreon’s solutions and services are developed in-house and from where all products are shipped to customers across the globe.  Kreon has 16 subsidiaries, multiple professional showrooms worldwide and more than 200 enthusiastic collaborators.
