Abacus Lighting Takes a Quantum Leap

Abacus to launch the uniquely aesthetically designed Quantum LED for car parks, leisure and open areas

Abacus Lighting today announced that Quantum, the uniquely designed LED lantern, will be launched to the market at the Light + Building Exhibition in Frankfurt this month. Abacus is the world leader in lighting, with operations across the UK, UAE, China, Russia and Asia.

Abacus’ highly successful Orion lantern range was introduced in 2000 and has been extensively used by clients including the retail giants ASDA and TESCO and Network Rail as well as in locations including the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit and Brighton and Hove Albion Stadium Car Parks.  The success of the Orion range and Orion 4 LED lantern led to Abacus developing a specific high performing car park and amenity LED Luminaire – Quantum.

Quantum is a complete LED solution for car park and open area lighting with a key modular construction designed around LED light sources rather than LEDs placed in an existing fixture. Quantum features Luxeon Rebel LEDs, 12 LEDs per module, with 20 modules per luminaire and the Philips Xitanium DALI, 1-10V and Stand-alone driver as standard for full digital dimming capability.

Quantum will offer excellent return on investment, with great payback and green credentials. The new lantern will be available for customer delivery from August 2012.

Andrew-Morris Richardson, Group Managing Director at Abacus Lighting, said: “Quantum has been specifically designed to meet the needs of customers for car parks and open areas. It delivers key benefits to customers in comparison to other LEDs on the market – it is both powerful, and has the highest environmental credentials.

“Our teams have ensured that every element of Quantum’s design works to enhance its capabilities in car parks and open areas. It delivers efficient use of light, minimising columns and uses LEDs optics designed solely for car park and open area applications.

“We are seeing the industry moving more and more towards LED light sources and the new technology in Quantum reflects this trend. We expect Quantum to become the leading lantern in this sector for Abacus and we are very much looking forward to introducing the product to existing and potential new customers at the Light + Building Exhibition in Frankfurt.”

Quantum has been designed by 3form Design (3       fD), the Hampshire-based design team that has worked with HSBC, Unilever and SAP Miller. The LED modules containing the LEDs have been designed by Dutch company Rena through Future Lighting Solutions in the UK. Quantum will be manufactured at Abacus factories in the UK and Shanghai, China.
